What is it like to study statistics at LSE?

The Department of Statistics offers four undergraduate degrees, including BSc Financial Mathematics and Statistics which is run jointly with the Mathematics Department (for details of the BSc Financial Mathematics and Statistics programme please see the Department of Mathematics page).

Our programmes provide a foundation in mathematical and statistical theory and students learn how to apply their quantitative skills to solve practical problems. The BSc Actuarial Science and the BSc Mathematics, Statistics and Business focus on the application of mathematics and statistics to the world of business, finance and social sciences. Students can select courses from a range of areas, including applicable mathematics, applied statistics, actuarial science, economics, finance and accounting. The BSc Data Science focuses on statistics, mathematics, data science and analytics, machine learning, artificial intelligence and programming.

The BSc Actuarial Science, BSc Mathematics, Statistics, and Business and BSc Financial Mathematics and Statistics programmes have similar first year courses. This means there are possibilities to move between the degree programmes in second year if you would like to.
